Reconcile

August 17, 2007 by · Leave a Comment

Disapproving stares cut to the bone
I never thought of us as friends
Wasn’t much space to grow apart
We were just strangers from day one

Just another defeat
Another disappointment from your son
Then the repeating dream
You could have had it all, but its come undone

Chorus:
You could have had the car, the clothes, the home
Like you wanted
You could have spared the rod, the boy, the child
You wouldn’t

Disgruntled time has passed you by
Never got your lot from life
You try to live it through my eyes
I can’t seem to do it right

You gave advice
Your praise lavished on my friends
I would have died
Before you saw me weak, and begin to cry

(Chorus) x 2

I thought it mattered that you cared
The sun will always rise
While you eat hospital meals
Was it really worth the fight?

I realize
I’ll never be good enough for you
Enjoy your dream
I make you proud, like your friend’s sons do

(Chorus) x 2

Reconcile, my pain stops with you.
