No Man Is An Island… Or A Mountain

Today was a great Easter with my family. I spent a while talking with my brother-in-law about movies coming out, and recent releases, something we have in common. Our tastes in movies don’t always match, but for the most part we can recommend movies to each other and expect the other to enjoy them.
For Christmas I gave him “The Amazing Screw-On Head” along with the comic book of the same title. This is an excellent 30 minute-ish cartoon done by the guy who created the Hellboy comics. What helps make this “movie” even better is that two of the main voices are Paul Giamatti and David Hyde Pierce. Paul plays the hero, Screw-On Head, while Pierce plays the villain, Emperor Zombie.
Hey check it out! I found a video of it online for free! Now you to can enjoy it!

Anyway, I saw this film a few months before Christmas and just knew he would love it. I was right, he did. So we discussed sequels coming out soon, like Batman and the new James Bond. Both of these movies were kick ass in their last releases, and in my opinion set the bar for movies trying to revitalize a franchise. This is completely contrast to Superman Returns which blew cheese and isn’t worth a rental. In fact, if you want to waste your money, just send it to me and I will happily report back to you how I spent your money unwisely. But at least by having me spend your money you will know for certain that someone was entertained… unlike what happens when you watch Superman Returns.
I can’t wait for the new Batman to hit the screens. I will likely actually spend my hard earned money and go to an over-priced theater and watch it on the big screen. I hear Heath Ledger’s performance is breathtaking, to the point that when he watched the first few minutes of the film, which is his intro, he was stunned himself and asked to watch it again. That’s a pretty good hint that it should be an awesome watch.
I’m a little sad that Heath is no longer with us in that accidental overdose of meds. I think he had a long career ahead of him, and have enjoyed some of his previous works. I never saw Brokeback Mountain, which doesn’t break my heart in the slightest, but I imagine that the trailer to Brokeback Mountain 2 would go something like this:
Cowboy #1 walking down the street in ass-less chaps twirling and eating peanut butter from a jar.
Cowboy #2 striding the same direction but faster, toward Cowboy #1 talking on his cell phone, also in unflattering chaps, not paying attention.
Cowboy #1 and Cowboy #2 collide, both are alarmed and agitated.
Cowboy #1: Hey! Your cowboy fell into my chocolate!
Cowboy #2: Your chocolate is all over my Cowboy!
Cowboy #1 and Cowboy #2 (in unison): It’s delicious!
OK, maybe that’s not exactly how the trailer would play out…
