I’ve Been Everywhere Man

March 30, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

You know I’ve been all the way around the world, quite literally.  I have not seen a whole heck of a lot of the United States, but I have made it to Canada, London, Amsterdam, and to the United Arab Emirates.  Not only have I been around this globe, but I have taken on the minor doting task of changing my identity as well.

Granted, I was not in disguise when I was traveling – no no no, that’d be a great way to get myself locked away in Guantanamo or something – no.  But I have made other global escapes on the World Wide Web, specifically in Yahoo 360 as a number of “alternate” personas.  I haven’t blogged as an alternate in over a year or more, so I guess its safe in outing myself here and now.  Not to mention Yahoo 360 is practically defunct.  Too bad though.

Well believe it or not, I had a brief but highly popular stint as a blogging mime.  Yeah, if you thought communicating with mimes were hard now – you should see someone trying to communicate with one in writing… when the mime never types words.  The Mime mostly only appeared in his own blogs and in the vastly dynamic and wonderful night club of interactive blog shows: Carter Up All Night.

I used to blog as an Inspirational Speaker/Midget too.  Carmine was a pretty popular guy, and pretty much stuck to his own crowd.  His own crowd consisted of other midgets and people in the Mid West where apparently people are hard up for a little humor.  Carmine liked to tell it how it is/was, and it was a little liberating to just rant about people who irked me.

J.R. was a cowboy that typed in run-on sentences.  J.R. also had an affinity for trashy women, manning a cell phone booth in the mall, and climbing water towers in the night.  Unfortunately J.R.’s girlfriend was a bit too trashy and it forced J.R. to eventually take some time away from weblogging and look for yet a new job.  J.R. actually had two incarnations.  I closed the first one down and then realized how much I missed run-on sentences, so I eventually duplicated him again.

Yahoo 360 was a hell of a place to meet people and be social.  The way your profiles mixed with friend’s updates still has yet to be paralleled, in my opinion, anywhere else.  Too bad Yahoo decided to let 360 slip into a non-responsive coma.  Pages are still there and still load… eventually, however I don’t see how people can continue to actively use that system.  Most of the 360-ers I knew moved on to Multiply.com, while I moved there too – its just not the same.

Edited 04/01/2009 – I added the blogs from Yahoo 360 for Carmine and J.R. to this archive by date.  You can quickly access them through the category list.  Yahoo 360 is loading incredibly slow and is a bit of a let down.  Feel free to access either at your leisure.
