Hypocritical Oath

November 5, 2009 by Douglas · Leave a Comment

Statue of Liberty MuralWell I DID have this cute little blog I was writing all about going to the doctor again today (three times in two weeks, that’s a record for me) to get my results from the EMG.  It was average length but cute and fun – then I sat down and looked through some headlines and found this and this.  You gotta be freaking kidding me!

So here’s my take on the whole health care situation.  I like the current vibe going around the GOP circle about taking care of two key points to help with the way things are now:

1. Tort Reform
2. Illegal Immigration

Take care of the wasted time and money invested through frivolous lawsuits and the need for astronomically priced malpractice insurance – and you save a crap-ton of money.  Stopp footing the bill for illegal immigrants and you save even more.

On a few levels I can see why the illegal immigrant and care for those who just can’t pay is still getting through.  At least from a doctor’s stand point, how do you turn away someone seeking help?  I know the suits who run managed care have no problems kicking them to the curb, but if someone is injured or what-have-you and there seeking assistance, no human being could really turn their backs.  I get that.  But if they weren’t here illegally in the first place, it wouldn’t be a healthcare in the US issue at least.  I get that too.

Tort reform seems pretty cut and dry to me though.  Of course I’m looking at it as an uneducated common man, who just pays his taxes and medical expenses mostly out of pocket – but I think that also gives me a voice at the table.  Why is this such a problem to get fixed?  Granted – even when Republicans were in control in D.C. tort reform wasn’t passed either.  There’s no excuse!  Someone pass it!

The whole idea of abortion is repulsive to me.  I can’t stand it really.

And just a word to that old woman standing on Petrovitsky holding up the butchered corpse of that embryo/baby – you are muting yourself with the obscenity of that photo.  You are closing people’s ears before they even hear the words in your mouth.

I think and KNOW abortion is wrong.  Everyone does.  If you know someone who’s had one, you know the kind of irreparable harm it does to the person having it done.  The people who fight for the right to have them, and for the most part push it as the best option for girls who find themselves in that situation, never had one.  If they say they did – they’re lying.  Yeah, I said it.

However, I don’t think it is the government’s job to tell people how and what to do with their bodies.  This is a Catch 22 because I see it as killing and murder, honestly, and if you can’t tell this woman she can’t, then who is sticking up for the rights of the baby?  This is why this issue is so controversial and stalemate.  While I don’t think the government should intrude like this, I also think that these procedures certainly should never be government funded – ever.  And for those people who will bring up the medical conditions for having one done, or to protect the life of the mother – well that really changes things from just an elective abortion, and becomes a matter of non-elective, if you and your doctor come to that conclusion.

Leap of FaithI’m not suggesting I have all the answers – no way.  But I will say that I know right from wrong, and government funded abortions is wrong.  Health Care is NOT a Right any way!  Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, yes – but holding your hand and making sure that when you stumble and scrape your knee, you get the Hello Kitty band aid that Suzy has, isn’t part of the deal.  Pick yourself up and learn from your mistakes.  Live your life!  When the government does it all for you, you lose too much.  You lose freedom, like the freedom to fail or freedom to succeed – both equally powerful and good.  You lose that liberty and that happiness you are pursuing is going to be defined for you.

I don’t know about you, but I like being free.
